Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are set to take their north London rivalry into the transfer market as they reportedly battle for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng – but Bayern supporters are not impressed.
Boateng, 32, has been a stalwart in the Bayern defence and will have spent 10 years with the German champions when his contract expires next summer. There had been rumours that he could be offered a new deal to stay.
The former Manchester City defender and World Cup winner has played 333 times in all competitions for Hansi Flick’s side – winning eight Bundesliga titles. He is a favourite among Bayern supporters.

However, German newspaper Bild claim that Bayern have decided against extending Boateng’s contract and will allow him to leave on a free transfer next summer – when his £196,000-a-week (Sun) deal ends.
The report claims Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in nabbing the experienced central defender for nothing. It would see him return to the Premier League, after just 24 appearances with Manchester City.
Bayern supporters, though, do not want to see him go. They believe that Boateng deserves another season at the club, given the loyalty he has shown over the past 10 years. One fans Tweeted that the decision “makes no sense”.
