Bayern Munich attacker Serge Gnabry has told The Times that he was sad to leave Arsenal three years ago after managing just 18 senior appearances, but does not regret ending his Arsenal dream to shine in Germany.
Gnabry, 24, was hardly given a look in at Arsenal during his time at the club under Arsene Wenger. A failed loan spell at West Brom, which saw him play just three times, confirmed Wenger’s doubts that he would not make it.
Wenger sold him to Werder Bremen for a bargain £5million (Mail), where he starred during 2016-17 – scoring 11 goals in 27 games from out wide. Bayern signed him, and sent him to Hoffenheim where he produced similar stats, 10 goals in 26.
Now, Gnabry is a regular in Bayern’s side, and has had a hand in 26 goals during his 49 league and cup outings. He told The Times that he was very sad to leave The Emirates, but believes it was the right decision for his career.

“[Arsenal] had so many wingers at the time — Ox, Rosicky, Theo, Cazorla, Alexis, Mesut Ozil . . . so I just had to go. Sadly,” Gnabry said. “I was still confident I could have got in the team but I didn’t want to wait.
“It was the hardest decision I had to make in football, leaving a club like Arsenal — the fans, the players — but to keep playing I had to take a step back and it was the right decision.”
TBR’s view – Gnabry form is Arsenal regret
Gnabry may have lost the battle at Arsenal, but he certainly won the war. Indeed, he will surely have made the Gunners regret the north London’s decision to sell him early – and for such a small figure.
Now, the player is worth at least £40million and is showing those that previously dismissed his talents – Arsene Wenger and then-West Brom manager Tony Pulis – that he can cut it in the best leagues.
