Bayern Munich made move for ‘excellent’ player but he only wants Chelsea, deal should be done in next days

TBR Football can exclusively confirm that Bayern Munich have tried their luck with a late move for Chelsea target Jamie Gittens.

Borussia Dortmund recently confirmed that Gittens is “on the verge” of a transfer to Chelsea after “all parties involved agreed in principle”.

However, until the contract is officially signed, there is always the risk that a player could change their mind and go elsewhere.

Gittens is one of the most highly sought-after Bundesliga stars, and Bayern have a reputation for trying to sign the best players from their rivals.

That said, Gittens has made his mind up – and it’s good news for Chelsea fans.

Jamie Gittens snubs late Bayern Munich approach as Chelsea move still on track

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Chelsea-bound Jamie Gittens shunned a late move from Bayern Munich.

Bayern, who looked at Gittens all summer, made another move for him but he had no desire to change his plans.

He was always going to sign for Chelsea – which should be done by Monday.

TBR Football previously revealed that Gittens wanted a move to Chelsea ahead of any other club – and he has held firm despite Bayern’s late attempt to try and turn his head.

Why Chelsea fans should be excited about Jamie Gittens move

At just 20 years of age, Gittens has shown he belongs at the highest levels, and his ceiling is so high that it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop.

Gittens enjoyed a superb season last time out, with 12 goals and five assists from 49 Dortmund outings in all competitions.

Gittens’ style of play has also been compared to that of Nico Williams, and Gittens has also been likened to Joe Cole.

“Jamie is an excellent player who has brought us great joy,” Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said of Gittens.

“It was his wish to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the very best and much success.”

Meanwhile, Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken spoke of how Gittens repaid the club’s trust in him with his attitude and efforts on and off the pitch.

“Jamie Gittens’ career exemplifies the development of top talents at BVB,” said Ricken.

“We discovered him very early, signed him almost at no cost, continuously developed him in our youth academy, and provided him with playing time at the highest professional level.

“Jamie has repaid that trust with dedication, performance, and goals.”
