Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has been discussing the future of Thiago Alcantara amid growing links with Liverpool.

The Spaniard is out of contract in a year’s time and appears to have decided he wants a new challenge away from the Allianz Arena.

As reported by SportBild and SPORT, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the player and wants to get a deal done. The latter even claim personal terms between club and player already agreed and Liverpool are simply in the process of trying to barter down Bayern’s £31.5 million asking price for the 29-year-old.

Thiago featured for three minutes in what might be his final domestic game for the club yesterday, as Bayern defeated Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in the DFB Pokal final.

Speaking to the press after the game, as reported by Eurosport, Flick made it clear that Bayern would do everything to keep Thiago, and team-mate David Alaba, but admitted it could be a thankless task.

“It would be very special if David ended his career here at Bayern. Similar to Thiago, I would be really happy if we could hold on to two of these quality players. I will do my best and try everything that we can to keep both players.”

Liverpool fans have had a mostly positive reaction to the possibility of signing Thiago, although some have raised eyebrows at the player’s age and the potential price-tag.

However, there is no doubting his immense quality would improve Jurgen Klopp’s team and in an area where some might feel there is room for improvement.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this story continues to develop.
