Batshuayi’s preference for Monaco makes £40m asking price poor value for Everton

Chelsea are willing to sell Michy Batshuayi to Everton to ease their goalscoring worries, according to the Daily Star.

They report that despite the Blues’ own need for an elite frontman, they are willing to offload Batshuayi this month, but will demand £40m from Goodison Park to secure his services.

The Blues hold the cards in some way because Everton already have Kurt Zouma on loan from Stamford Bridge, so any potential deal for Batshuayi would apparently need to be permanent.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph report that Batshuayi would rather move out on loan to Monaco, under his former Belgium coach Thierry Henry.

So Everton face the prospect of paying a bumper transfer fee for a player who would rather move elsewhere, on the back of an unsuccesful loan spell with Valencia.

Marco Silva’s need for a striker is clear and while Batshuayi clearly has talent, that does not represent value for money at all, even by the standards of the inflated January market.

Everton are not in any immediate danger of relegation, which means their need for goals is not exceptionally pressing and they would be wise to keep their powder dry until the summer when there should be better value on the market.
