Bassala Sambou surely moves one step closer to new Everton contract after his under-23 brace
Bassala Sambou was on the score-sheet yet again for Everton’s title-chasing under-23 team despite their setback.
Everton’s under-23 side were made to wait to claim the Premier League 2 title after they lost 4-3 against Manchester City.
But Sambou still produced an impressive individual performance, adding two more goals to his tally.
His first was confidently dispatched from the penalty spot. And then he turned Brendan Galloway’s cross in for his second strike of the match.
However, the German-born striker is out of contract at the end of the season. And he has never played a senior game for the Toffees so he might be released.

But Sambou’s performances for Everton’s under-23 team have helped him stake a claim for a contract extension. The 21-year-old leads the line for the under-23 team and he has scored 11 goals this season.
Everton youth coach David Unsworth clearly rates Sambou highly and sees a future for him at the Merseyside club. But if the ex-Coventry City striker is rewarded with another deal, he needs to start playing some first-team football.
Whether that is at Everton or via a loan stint away from the club, it is time for Sambou to prove he can step up to the senior game.
Sambou’s performances for Everton’s academy team should convince the club to hand him a new deal but he still has it all to do if he wants to make the first-team in the future.
