Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost has confirmed there was interest from Tottenham Hotspur in him during the late stages of the international transfer window.
The Dutchman has given an interview with Bild about what really went down over the summer where he admits that Spurs were indeed in the picture to sign him at one stage.
Dost was earmarked as a possible backup for Harry Kane, but the 31-year-old has hinted that that was a role that just wasn’t for him.

He said: “I heard from my advisor that [Tottenham] were really there and were interested, but I don’t think it was ever an issue for me to be a regular there, and I just want to play.”
Dost has only been with Eintracht since the summer of 2019, and hit 10 goals in 32 appearances.
Having not been at his current club for very long, he added: “That’s something [interest from Mourinho], but if you look at my career, I’ve never left a club after just one season. Not now either, especially since I’ve only been able to show a little here. I’m far from finished with Eintracht.”
Dost has certainly got off to a great start in 2020/21, scoring three goals and making three assists in just four appearances so far.
TBR’s View – Spurs will hope Vinicius can do the business
Spurs fans will have faith in the man they eventually signed, Carlos Vinicius, to do the business in north London, but Dost’s current form shows he would have been a decent addition.

It’s easy to see why Tottenham did have an interest – the star scored 93 goals in 127 appearances for Sporting CP, 48 in 117 for Wolfsburg and 52 in 73 for Heerenveen.
He would have been a solid Kane backup but the player has to be accepting of the role and it seems Dost was more than happy to be a main man at Eintracht.
