Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic have been linked with Ivan Toney, but it seems as though the Ibrox side and their Parkhead rivals could have competition.
The 24-year-old has been superb for Peterborough United this season, scoring 26 goals in just 39 appearances in all competitions, with the League One campaign being cut short in March.
Celtic were linked with Toney back in January, while earlier this month, Posh sporting director Barry Fry claimed he’d heard Rangers were also keen on the forward.

Peterborough Today has reiterated that the two Glasgow sides are monitoring the League One Golden Boot winner, but RB Leipzig are also believed to have made enquiries.
Fry has told the outlet that he knocked back a bid of £4million plus add ons from Major Soccer League club New York Red Bulls earlier this month.
Peterborough are reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £10million for a player who cost just £350,000 from Newcastle two years ago, and Fry reckons there could be a bidding war.
“My chairman is confident we will get what we want for Ivan,” Fry said. “And that’s much more than the £4million plus many add ons that New York offered. I was surprised by that offer as they have plenty of money.
“The chairman can see top clubs ignoring foreign players in favour of spending less money in the UK market. We’ll see, but I believe other factors will be in play and there could well be a bidding war when the Premier League and Championship seasons are over.
“It’s my belief there won’t be a better striker in the country at the price we want than Ivan Toney this summer and there will be plenty of clubs trying to sign him. They won’t get him on the cheap though and we know his value.”
TBR View:
Fair play to Peterborough for having turned a little-known £350,000 striker into one of the hottest properties in the country, linked with a Bundesliga title challenger, and for whom a £4million offer from another Red Bull club is now seemingly not enough.
With the future of both Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and Celtic counterpart Odsonne Edouard unclear, both sides could well be eyeing other strikers, and Toney, with his exceptional movement, pace, physicality and of course an eye for goal, would be a superb shout.
However, it won’t be easy – or cheap – for either Ibrox or Parkhead, and given the figures mentioned by Fry, it’s likely the only way either club would be able to afford Toney is if either Morelos or Edouard are sold for decent money first.
