Barry Ferguson has told the Go Radio Football Show that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard would not be tempted with a move to Crystal Palace this summer as Roy Hodgson’s replacement – amid claims that Palace are considering the Gers gaffer.
Gerrard has emerged as one of the best, young managers in European football after guiding Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title – and re-establishing his Rangers side as a decent outfit in Europe, with the Gers in the last 16 of the Europa League.
Little surprise, then, that there will be talk about Gerrard’s future – especially with some Premier League clubs likely to be on the lookout for a new boss this summer. Go Radio Football Show host Paul Cooney claimed Gerrard was on the shortlist at Palace.
Rangers legend Ferguson has applauded Gerrard but is confident that he would ignore the advances of a mid-table Premier League side in the form of Palace – as the Eagles look to find a suitor to take on the role Hodgson has done so well.

“I’m not surprised (they want him). It’s clear the job he has done at Rangers has been fantastic this season with the turnaround in terms of how dominant Celtic were,” Ferguson said. “At some stage he will look to maybe go and try his hand down south.
“But he has only delivered one trophy so far, they still have the Scottish Cup and the last 16 of the Europa League. They have a real good chance of reaching the last eight. I firmly believe he will be at Rangers for a year or two.”
TBR’s view – Where does Gerrard’s future lie?
Gerrard has a contract until the summer of 2024 at Rangers, and he himself has stated that he wants to take over at Liverpool in years to come – recently admitting as much following the title win. But he has also stated that he wants to stay at Ibrox.
But will Liverpool come calling, with Gerrard at Rangers? Or does the Anfield icon need to join a Premier League club before joining Liverpool? If he is, then Palace is not the ideal club – given their style of play. A Leeds or a Southampton, are more suited.
