Ex-Scotland international Barry Ferguson has been blown away by the form of Celtic’s Callum McGregor this season and believes he should be in the running for Player of the Year.
The midfielder has now racked up a colossal 54 senior appearances across all competitions so far this season and there is still more to come, with the club chasing down a domestic treble.
He was an ever-present during former boss Brendan Rodgers and has continued to shine for interim manager Neil Lennon recently.
The Scotsman is a versatile ace that has play in a number of midfield positions and does them all so effectively.
The 25-year-old has become a pivotal player in the starting XI at Parkhead and is so consistent in the centre of the park.
“Callum McGregor is an outstanding midfielder. He can play the holding role, play number 10, play the left side, he can even fill in at left-back. For me it’s between them two (McGregor and Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos for Player of the Year),” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer.

TBR’s View:
McGregor has been a dependable rock for the Scottish giants this term and not allowed his levels to dip unlike some of his teammates at times.
He’s scored six goals and supplied 12 assists this campaign in all competitions to highlight his quality in the final third.
But he’s an all-action midfielder too that makes numerous tackles and has a work-rate that is infectious for his side.
McGregor certainly has earned the right to be mentioned as a potential Player of the Year recipient, as he continues to go from strength to strength for Celtic.
