Barry Ferguson has told PLZ Soccer that he does not think Rangers will spend “tens of millions” in the upcoming summer window but is confident owner Dave King will back Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard signed 15 players at Rangers in his first summer as manager, spending big on the likes of Connor Goldson, Eros Grezda, Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic.
Although Rangers beat Celtic for the first time since going back into the top tier and qualified for the Europa League group stage, they failed to get to a final of either Cup and sit nine points behind Celtic.
Rangers legend Ferguson believes the club requires further investment this summer to close the gap between themselves and Celtic once again, but does not believe Gerrard will be given endless amounts of money.

“The Rangers squad does need investment,” Ferguson said. “There has certainly been steps going forward. He’s made some good signings, some signings not so good but that’s football.
“I think it’s a big summer for the manager, and he needs funds. I don’t think he will get tens of millions, but I do think they’ll back him. Dave King has already said he would. If they identify a player, Rangers will try to sign him.”
TBR’s view
Rangers need a permanent partner for Goldson at centre-back, a first-choice left-back and more additions out wide with Ryan Kent likely to return to Liverpool at the end of his loan.
Many are expected to leave, too. Though a massive overhaul like last summer is not required, Gerrard needs to bring in a handful of big signings that can cover a few holes.
