Barry Douglas sends four-word Instagram message to Leeds star after penning new deal

Barry Douglas has sent a four-word Instagram message to Niall Huggins after the Leeds United youngster put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2023 – amid a string of impressive performances.

Huggins, 20, has come through the Leeds academy after initially joining at the tender age of just six. He has since broken into the Under-18 side and then the reserves on a regular basis this season – as well as earning a Wales Under-21 call-up.

Initially a striker, it is difficult to pinpoint Huggins’ best position – since being used in attacking midfield, out wide and even on both sides of the defence. This season, Huggins has most played as a left-back for the Under-23 side.

Huggins underlined his delight after penning a new contract which will keep him at Elland Road for another two and a half years – and Douglas, who remains on the Leeds books on loan at Blackburn, reacted with a four-word message to Huggins.

TBR’s view – A long-term replacement for Douglas?

With Douglas expected to sign a permanent deal at Blackburn given his Leeds contract ends on the same day as his Blackburn loan – Leeds may have to think about replacing the Scot, especially with Stuart Dallas being used in midfield.

Huggins would be ideal. Quick, versatile, technically gifted and creative, he is the ideal kind of player Marcelo Bielsa player likes to have in his squad. No surprises then, that he has signed a new deal and is currently training with the first team.
