Barry Douglas was handed his first Leeds United start since August on Monday night and the Scottish left-back impressed in the FA Cup clash against Arsenal – but has smartly responded to a critical Leeds fan on Instagram.
Douglas, 30, has struggled for game time this season with Marcelo Bielsa preferring the likes of Gjanni Alioski and Stuart Dallas on the left side of the defence at times. It has limited Douglas to just 12 appearances in all competitions.
But against Arsenal, Douglas looked as though he had been in the side for the entire campaign as he starred despite comign up against The Gunners’ club-record signing in £72million man Nicolas Pepe. Leeds were unlucky to lose 1-0.
A few days on from the defeat, Douglas posted on Instagram a hilarious post that saw him blaze a free-kick from 25 yards out against Arsenal over the bar. He captioned the post: “Great photo… not so great free-kick.”
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers star is contention to start against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday after his excellent outing in north London. The Whites remain nine points clear of third, and could stretch that lead to 12.
A critical Leeds fan commented on Douglas’ post, suggesting that the Scottish star has not been as good as many had hoped in a Leeds shirt. Douglas responded, wishing the fan a “happy new year” with a sarcastic reply.
