Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Helder Costa will be a great signing for the club.
The 25-year-old arrived at Elland Road this summer on a season-long loan from Wolves.
Douglas and Costa were part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team that romped to the Championship title during 2017/18.
The Portuguese forward was part of Wolves’ squad that finished seventh in the Premier League last season. Espirito Santo deemed him surplus, however for the new campaign allowing him to join Leeds.
Douglas saw his 2018/19 campaign blighted by injuries, although he did make 26 appearances for the club.
He believes Costa will be a quality signing for Leeds.
Ahead of the new campaign, he told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “He’s a player that is going to keep people on the edge of their seat.
“He can create a chance from nothing and hopefully he brings that magic. He’s a great acquisition to the squad.”
Costa has certainly been one of the more eye-catching transfers in the Championship this summer.
It has been a relatively quiet time of things in the second tier this summer, but Costa to Leeds does standout.
The proof will be in the performances but he is a capable performer at this level.
Leeds lacked something a bit of something in the final third last season and Costa should give them an edge on plenty of teams this season.
The £32,500-a-week (Spotrac) speedster will sign a permanent deal with Leeds next summer and the club’s supporters will hope he has led them to the top-flight before that contract is signed.
