Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has been discussing how his move to Elland Road in 2018 came about.
The Scotland international joined Leeds that summer despite having a stellar season at Wolverhampton Wanderers the previous term.
Leeds were in desperate need of left-back reinforcements having failed to adequately replace Charlie Taylor since his move to Burnley.
Douglas, whose 15 assists for Wolves helped them romp to the Championship title, arrived for a reported (Sky Sports) £3 million in a deal that came out of the blue considering his importance to Wolves’ promotion campaign.

Now, speaking to the Leeds United Twitter account, Douglas explained how the move came about.
“(It happened) Very fast to be honest. I think I started preseason back with Wolves. There was a lot happening off the back of winning the Championship, so it was a crazy summer, the birth of (his son) Kaidyn so it was all go.
“It was just in pre-season to be honest. (Wolves manager) Nuno (Espirito Santo) came and spoke to me and said: ‘This is the plan for the club moving forward. We have had an offer from Leeds and we’re going to accept it. Ultimately it’s up to you but this is where we’re at.’
“I had to quickly make a decision and sign for Leeds and never really look back. It was a really big project, an ambitious project, and another chance to hopefully go on and achieve success.”
Wolves went on to sign Jonny from Celta Vigo, who has since become a Spanish international, so it is clear why the decision to sell was made.
Leeds United fans were left over the moon with the acquisition as Douglas appeared to be the perfect signing. Unfortunately, despite his obvious ability, Douglas has had niggling injury problems throughout his time at Leeds which has limited his impact.
Leeds fans will hope that Douglas can still have a significant part to play at Elland Road going forward. As for Wolves fans, they will admit that their manager made the right call.
