It appears Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan could now be on his way out of the club. According to Sky Sports, both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough have had bids accepted for the talented full-back. Reports have suggested the fee could be as high as £6 million for the player, who now has to decide which team to join.
Bryan has been linked with a number of clubs this summer. Leeds United were one of those teams. Bryan was linked with a move to Leeds back in June, predominantly through social media rumours.
So whilst it appears Leeds never truly had any interest in the player, is that the right move?
Considering who they did snap up, the answer is yes.
Leeds instead signed Barry Douglas from Wolves for a fee of £3 million. Considering the statistics of the pair, Leeds will be happy with their deal.
Whilst Bryan may be something of an assist machine, he pales in significance to the impressive form of Douglas in that regard.
Bryan has played 244 career games, with a record of 32 assists. That is a fairly impressive record. However, Douglas smashes it. In his career, which has seen him play in Scotland, Poland and Turkey, the 28-year-old has a whopping 59 assists in 248 games.
Leeds fans saw that in full-flow at the weekend in a brilliant display against Stoke City. Whilst Bryan may be the younger and more fashionable option, Douglas, at his price, suits Leeds better.
