Barrie McKay shines on Swansea debut as he tries to prove Aitor Karanka wrong

Swansea City got their Championship start off to a flyer yesterday evening. Goals from Oli McBurnie and Yan Dhanda saw them come back from 1-0 down to beat Sheffield United.

There were some great performances among the Swansea players, but new signing Barrie McKay might have been the pick of the bunch.

The Scottish winger was a constant threat down the right-hand side. He struck an incredible half-volley against the bar but also played a role in both goals. His effort was saved by Dean Henderson before Mcburnie levelled. He also played the ball to Dhanda for the Swansea winner.

Nottingham Forest decided they would let McKay go this summer. In fairness that made sense. Signed by his former Rangers manager Mark Warburton last summer, the Scot has failed to establish himself at the City Ground.

When Aitor Karanka took over, McKay was swiftly cast aside as expendable.

Last week he was sold to Swansea for a fee reported to be in the region of £1.5 million. For many Nottingham Forest fans, it was not considered a huge loss.

McKay has instantly shown what he can do. However, inconsistency plagues McKay’s displays. Nottingham Forest fans will not yet be concerned that they let a real talent disappear.

But if he plays like this week-in-week-out, then Karanka and Nottingham Forest will not come out looking good.
