Having spent the last 18 months with Bayern Munich, Barca are now keen to recoup some cash for a player they reportedly paid over £140m for just two years ago.

And that news could be a boost for the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea, and Leicester City, who have all been credited with keeping an interest in Coutinho’s situation at the Nou Camp.

Indeed, for Newcastle, it could give them a huge chance to land a marquee signing for their new owners. The club’s takeover appears to be heading closer to completion following developments this week.

Coutinho, then, could be just what the Toon Army want to see. With Saudi investment coming to Tyneside, the arrival of the former Liverpool man would no doubt perk fans’ interests somewhat.

If ever there was a time for Newcastle to strike when it comes to signing Coutinho, then that time is now.

Barcelona have basically invited bids with open arms with their latest stance. And despite the current global scenario, Newcastle shouldn’t have any worries when it comes to the money side of things.

Coutinho would be a brilliant marquee signing for Newcastle. Their owners will be keen to show the fans they mean serious business.

With that, there won’t be many players the club can target who will top the talent of Coutinho.
