Barcelona supporters not impressed, as Everton reportedly ‘close’ to defender signing

Everton are reportedly ‘close’ to completing a move to sign Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo this summer but supporters of the Spanish side are not impressed on Twitter – urging their club to keep the Frenchman.

Spanish outlet SPORT have claimed that 20-year-old Todibo is nearing a move to Goodison Park, after agreeing to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side. The Merseyside club remain in talks with Barcelona, but an agreement seems to be close.

That is because Barcelona want £21.8million for the France Under-21 international, who has only played five times for Barcelona since joining the club from French side Toulouse. He has been on loan at Schalke this season.

Everton are willing to meet that asking price, but have tabled an offer that sees Everton pay £17.4million up front – before adding £4.4million in bonuses. It remains to be seen if Barcelona will accept such an offer, given a decent chunk is not up front.

Everton are desperately in need of a central defender this summer. Mason Holgate has impressed after breaking into the side, but he, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina are the club’s only first-team options.

Barcelona supporters reacted on Twitter to the reports that Everton are close to landing the highly-rated Barcelona youngster, and many fans are desperate for their club to keep him at the Nou Camp – instead of selling him to Everton.
