Barcelona appear desperate to shift French winger Ousmane Dembele this summer, who has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal.
As reported by Diario AS in April, both Arsenal and Liverpool have shown themselves to be interested in the Barca star, who cost the Catalan club a whopping (Guardian) £129 million in the summer of 2018.
Now, MARCA is reporting that Barcelona are so desperate to shift Dembele this summer that they are willing to discuss a transfer fee in the region €60 million (£53m) to make it happen.
Dembele has struggled since his move to Barcelona, struggling with injuries, indifferent form and he has also been making plenty of unsavoury headlines off the pitch.
Arsenal will no doubt be keeping an eye on the situation, however, the report does explain why teams in England are unsure regarding the Frenchman.
MARCA reports that Premier League teams are keen on Dembele, but have reservations because of Dembele’s form, fitness and attitude since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund.
Prior to his switch to Spain, teams in England, Arsenal included, would have been chomping at the bit to spend just £53 million on the flying winger.
Now, however, with the global health crisis decimating finances in the game, Dembele could be seen as too expensive a risk to take for a club like Arsenal.
Arsenal fans would undoubtedly love to see Dembele arrive, especially if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was to leave. The idea of a wide attack consisting of Dembele and Nicolas Pepe is enough to have fans in tense anticipation.
But considering his struggles in Barcelona, Arsenal and others might be right to be cautious.
