According to a recent report, Barcelona are now ready to make a move for a highly-rated midfielder who Arsenal want to sign this summer transfer window.

Arsenal will be eager to strengthen in the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta prepares his side for another title challenge.

They didn’t quite have the squad depth last term to pip Manchester City to the summit, so that’ll need to be addressed.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, via The Standard, Barcelona are now ready to make a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

The Belgium international has just crashed out of the European Championships in Germany after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to France.

Now, his potential departure from Everton could accelerate with Arsenal one of the clubs keen on landing the ‘outstanding’ 22-year-old.

The Catalan giants seem to be eager to formalise their interest and steal a march on The Gunners, so sporting director Edu may be forced into making an approach sooner than anticipated.

It’s hardly surprising to see the top clubs interested in Onana when you take a look at his impressive defensive statistics, as per FBref.

The 2001-born ranks in the top eight per cent for tackles per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe.

Further, he sits in the top six per cent for aerial duels won, amplifying his physical presence in the middle of the park.

Onana can operate as a box-to-box or as a six – protecting the back four and recovering balls.
