Giovani Lo Celso looks to be in line for a rare start for Tottenham this weekend.
With James Maddison and Pape Sarr out injured, the Argentine should be able to get his name on the teamsheet against Aston Villa, and this is a big chance for the midfielder to prove he still has a part to play at Spurs.
Lo Celso has barely had a sniff this season under Ange Postecoglou, and, as you can imagine, there’s been plenty of rumours around a potential departure in January.
Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Tom Allnutt has been discussing Lo Celso and his future, and he’s led to believe that it wouldn’t be difficult for Tottenham to find a buyer for the midfielder, claiming that many of Spain’s top clubs rate him and that Barcelona have had an interest in the player for a long time.

Barcelona have wanted Lo Celso for ages
Allnutt shared what he knows about the £45m midfielder.
“It’s worth saying by the way that if Spurs put him up for sale in January there will be a queue of clubs ready to take him, particularly back in Spain. Barcelona have always had an interest in Lo Celso, and he’s very much on the list of the top four or five, Atletico, Sevilla, Valencia, Villarreal, all of these clubs have seen Lo Celso doing it week-in, week-out in La Liga,” Allnutt said.
Great move
If Barcelona truly do want to sign Lo Celso, then the midfielder should be pushing for a move this summer.
With all due respect to Tottenham, a move to Barcelona is a fantastic opportunity for Lo Celso. He’d get to play in a country where he’s more settled and a league that suits his talent more for a club that is much bigger.
Of course, Lo Celso’s main focus right now is impressing at Spurs, but if Barcelona do come calling in January, he should be trying to force that move in our view.
