West Ham United are reportedly battling clubs from Italy and Spain in the race to sign Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo ahead of the January transfer window with a loan-to-buy deal in the offing – and Barcelona fans have responded.

Firpo, 24, has only managed 29 appearances for Barcelona since completing a £16.5million (MD) move from Real Betis in the summer of 2019. He was expected to be a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba on the left side of the defence.

However, he has struggled to overtake the Spaniard and under Ronald Koeman, his game time has reduced. Though he has played five of Barcelona’s six Champions League group games, Firpo has only been afforded one La Liga outing.

Mundo Deportivo claim the race is hotting up for Firpo with Barcelona seemingly open to sanctioning a loan-to-buy deal in the January window. West Ham are interested, with Arthur Masuaku going under the knife.

However, the Hammers face competition for Firpo’s signature. Gennaro Gattuso is keen to take Firpo to Italy with Napoli, while ambitious La Liga outfit Granada are keen to keep Firpo in Spain. But the Hammers are likely to have the best financial clout.

Barcelona supporters reacted to the news that West Ham, Napoli and Granada are all reportedly interested in Firpo and they have urged their club to get rid of the left-back – with some even suggesting that he should go permanently.
