Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in replacing Christian Eriksen with Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena in the January transfer window – and Barcelona fans have reacted on Twitter to the news they could lose Alena.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have claimed that 21-year-old midfielder Alena has been targeted by Tottenham, with Eriksen expected to leave Spurs either in January or when his contract expires next summer.
Alena is struggling for game time at Barcelona this season, after breaking through the La Masia academy to make 35 senior Barcelona appearances. However, the signing of Frenkie de Jong has limited Alena to one outing this season.
Indeed, the combination of de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Arturo Vidal, Arthur and Ivan Rakitic is limiting any chance Alena has of pulling on his boyhood club’s shirt. He has a contract at Barca until the summer of 2022.
The report claims Barcelona were contacted by numerous clubs for Alena in the summer, the most interested being Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham. Now, with his situation still in doubt, Spurs are ready to try again in January.
Barcelona fans reacted to the reported news that Tottenham could be about to sign Alena in the January window, and the majority are desperate for Ernesto Valverde to keep Alena at the Nou Camp instead of letting him go.
GO AWAY. NOT FOR SALE.
Valverde is for sale. $1.

Alena will have a better chance at his career if he goes there rather than rot here in Valverde's bench.

If they sell him they will buy him back on worth £100m after 3 pr 4 season.

Aleñá (permanently) going to Tottenham is not a good idea without not knowing who'll be the next coach there. I don't think Poch will stay there for too long. Before Poch Tottenham was basically a talent killer. Bad timing for a move. https://t.co/yvVUGyFOgP
