Barcelona signing Antoine Griezmann has told Sky Sports that he likes Liverpool because of their supporters.
In a recent interview with the station, the £107 million (BBC Sport) ace stated his admiration for the Merseyside-based team.
The 28-year-old joined the Catalan giants this summer ending a five-year association with Atletico Madrid.
In a perhaps surprising series of quotes, he also says that he hopes Jurgen Klopp’s team can end their long wait for a Premier League title.
Griezmann told Sky Sports: “In terms of teams I admire Liverpool because of the fans. Hopefully one day they will win the league title once again.”
Liverpool haven’t claimed the Premier League crown since the league formed in 1992.
Last season, Klopp’s team claimed an astonishing 97 points, yet were still pipped to the post by Pep Guardiola’s remarkable Manchester City team.
The Reds haven’t signed any players as of yet this summer, although they do boast a strong squad anyway.
Griezmann’s challenge at Barcelona will be to undoubtedly push them towards Champions League glory once again.
The Catalans were beaten in pretty embarrassing fashion by Liverpool last season. Leading 3-0 from the first leg, they arrived at Anfield for the second leg of their semi-final and were thrashed 4-0 by Klopp’s team.
Remarkably, Barcelona have not won the Champions League since the 2014/15 campaign when they beat Juventus 3-1.
