Bamford reacts on Instagram to Joe Gelhardt’s assist in Leeds draw

Patrick Bamford reacted to Leeds United’s draw with Brighton on Instagram by suggesting that Joe Gelhardt’s cross for the equaliser was the assist of the season.

Jesse Marsch’s men have given themselves a lifeline in the battle to beat the drop. They have moved out of the bottom three after securing a point against the Seagulls.

For much of Sunday, it appeared that they were heading for another defeat. Brighton took the lead during the first-half at Elland Road. And they had several chances to put the game to bed during the first-half.

And while Leeds improved after the break, it seemed that the goal was never going to come. However, there was to be one final twist in stoppage-time as Gelhardt received the ball from a chipped pass from Diego Llorente.

The young forward did brilliantly to keep control of the ball and chip it up towards the back post. There was Pascal Struijk to nod across the line to send the ground into a frenzy.

It could be a massive moment in Leeds’ season should they manage to keep themselves up. Once again, Gelhardt was at the heart of a major turning point in the club’s campaign.

Of course, it was his goal that gave the side a vital win against Norwich in March. And he has now made the impact to earn them a point against Brighton.

Struijk rightfully will take much of the credit. But Marsch lauded Gelhardt for the assist. And he has been joined by several others as the forward posted on Instagram.
