‘Baller’: Arsenal fans react to reported interest in midfielder

Arsenal have been linked with Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have reacted with great excitement to the transfer speculation.

Goncalves, 22, is a highly-rated talent that is currently making a name for himself in the Portuguese top flight.

According to Eurosport, Arsenal have the youngster on their radar in their search for possible new signings this summer.

The report states that their current on-loan star Martin Odegaard is the priority signing ahead of next season, but the Sporting playmaker is named as a possible option to bring to the Emirates Stadium.

Goncalves, who can play in central or wide attacking positions, is enjoying a superb individual season.

The Portuguese ace now has 15 goals in 27 appearances this season across all competitions, as well as five assists.

If manager Mikel Arteta was to lose the creative threat of Odegaard next season, it’s imperative he finds an extra attacking threat to help the forwards.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes is a remarkable recent example of a player moving from Sporting to shine in the Premier League. However, that doesn’t mean Goncalves would be a guaranteed success despite his promise.
