Tottenham enjoyed a fine summer in the transfer market and are seemingly clicking into gear as a team, too, with a 6-1 win at Man United coming just before the international break.
Daniel Levy moved to back Jose Mourinho despite the pandemic this summer. Millions have been spent on fees and wages, including an eye-catching loan deal to bring Gareth Bale back to London.

Bale’s signing, in addition to the signings of the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, and Carlos Vinicius, give the whole Spurs squad a look and feel of something that can go on to achieve success this season.
But despite the big names coming in with Bale as the headliner, it is the capture of Denmark enforcer, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, that will ensure this Spurs squad drives itself towards success both in the league and cups.
Exactly what was missing
Anyone who has seen the Amazon documentary on Tottenham will have seen that Jose Mourinho demanded his team be a bit nastier and tougher in their approach to winning football matches.
Hojbjerg brings that to the midfield for Spurs. Strong, tenacious, and with real leadership qualities about him, a reported £15m fee and £100k-a-week wages look like being money well spent by Tottenham.

But it’s not just his qualities off the ball that Mourinho will love. Hojbjerg is also a fine passer of the football. Both long and short, the Dane has it all in the locker while he’s also not afraid to take the shackles off and burst forward if needed.
So, in a summer where all eyes were on Bale and Reguilon cost over £25m, it is the signing of the former Southampton skipper that will, in this writer’s opinion, prove to be the shrewdest of moves by the club.
