The search for a new manager is still ongoing at Newcastle United and if Guillem Balague is right, the Magpies have sadly been rejected by a number of big names in recent weeks.

PIF and co parted ways with Steve Bruce two weeks ago and have been on the lookout for his replacement since. A number of managers have been linked with the job, the latest being Villarreal boss Unai Emery.

The Spaniard would be a very good appointment for Newcastle. His first spell in England may not have been a successful one, but he is a phenomenal football manager, who could really change the club’s fortunes.

However, Balague believes that Emery to Newcastle is unlikely to happen in the middle of the season. He claims that the ex-Arsenal boss will say no, just like many other big names have in recent weeks.

Balague: Many managers have said no to Newcastle

Newcastle’s new regime has given fans the hope of seeing their club get back to the top. That will not happen overnight, but with the right manager and a good project, the Toon could become a real force in the coming years.

Emery would be ideal for this position, as would many of the other names linked with the job. However, the Magpies’ offers seem to have been rejected by many over the last two weeks.

Balague claims that Emery will follow the likes of soon-to-be Barca boss Xavi, new Spurs manager Antonio Conte and ex-Germany coach Joachim Low in saying no to the Newcastle United job.

What next for the Toon?

Newcastle have to appoint a new manager ASAP. They just can’t put all the burden on interim boss Graeme Jones, especially not when they’re stuck in 19th after four draws and six defeats in their first 10 league games.

If PIF can get Emery in, it would be a brilliant appointment. The Spaniard is fantastic and although he will not have Newcastle playing beautiful Barcelona-like football, he will bring some sort of structure to the club.

As for Low, Conte and Xavi, they would all have been very interesting options. However, Balague claims that all three of them said no, and the Magpies have to move on now and look elsewhere.
