Conor Coady was not handed his first ever senior international call-up for England on Thursday – and some Wolverhampton Wanderers fans on Twitter believe he deserved some recognition.
Gareth Southgate has named his 25-man Lions squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, which included a number of surprises.
Young trio James Maddison, Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount were all called up to the senior England squad for the first time, while the likes of Ross Barkley, Harry Winks and Nathaniel Chalobah also returned.
But there was no place for Wolves’ club captain Coady, who does play in a three-man defence like the national team.
Coady is yet to feature for England on the senior international stage, but is now playing regular Premier League football and is a leader in the Wolves defence.
The 25-year-old can only hope that he continues his good form and manager Southgate has shown he’s willing to take a look at uncapped players.
A selection of Wolves fans are convinced that the ball-playing centre-back deserved a call-up on Thursday, with many stating he is a far better option than included Burnley defender James Tarkowski.
Here is some of the Wolves reaction to the Coady omission on Twitter:

I’m obviously biased but how on earth has Conor Coady not made that #England squad. Captaining a side that plays the same formation the national team play with to great success – 4th best defence in the Premier League after just being promoted. Tarkowski? Baffling. #wwfc

Coady is better than Tarkowski. Simple! https://t.co/tDEwDUG4AS

I’m not biased here and I’ll even admit Tarkowski is a fantastic defender! But so far Burnley have been shocking and letting in goals for fun! The fact he has been chosen ahead of Coady is criminal #wwfc

Conor Coady has been robbed. No better sweeper than him #wwfc

Not sure what more he could have done? Not like Tarkowski is keeping clean sheets at Burnley and Stones and Walker demonstrated they have a mistake in them at the World Cup. Coady is the only English middle centre back playing Southgate’s system in the Premier League

Tarkowski is a weird way of spelling coady 🤔
