‘Baffling’: Wolves fans react to Conor Coady’s omission from England

Conor Coady was not handed his first ever senior international call-up for England on Thursday – and some Wolverhampton Wanderers fans on Twitter believe he deserved some recognition.

Gareth Southgate has named his 25-man Lions squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, which included a number of surprises.

Young trio James Maddison, Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount were all called up to the senior England squad for the first time, while the likes of Ross Barkley, Harry Winks and Nathaniel Chalobah also returned.

But there was no place for Wolves’ club captain Coady, who does play in a three-man defence like the national team.

Coady is yet to feature for England on the senior international stage, but is now playing regular Premier League football and is a leader in the Wolves defence.

The 25-year-old can only hope that he continues his good form and manager Southgate has shown he’s willing to take a look at uncapped players.

A selection of Wolves fans are convinced that the ball-playing centre-back deserved a call-up on Thursday, with many stating he is a far better option than included Burnley defender James Tarkowski.
