Liverpool midfielder James Milner has congratulated his former side Aston Villa on Twitter after they beat Derby County to gain promotion to the Premier League – and Villa fans reacted to his Tweet.
Anwar El Ghazi gave Villa the lead at Wembley, before a mistake from Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos allowed John McGinn to score. Derby scored a late consolation through Jack Marriott, but Villa held on.
It has seen Dean Smith’s side return to the Premier League at the third attempt, after losing in the play-off final last season following their relegation in 2016. He congratulated Villa on Twitter, with a simple one-word Tweet.
Congrats 👏🏻 https://t.co/OdaHjMPvMg

Milner, 33, spent the 2005-06 season on loan at Villa, and then two years between the summer of 2008 and 2010 before joining Manchester City. He played 122 times for Villa, scoring 20 goals and creating 25 more.
It is believed the 61-time England international has a contract at Anfield until the summer of 2020, so he will not be available on a free this summer. He is currently in Spain preparing for the Champions League final.
Villa fans reacted to Milner’s Tweet, with many considering the idea of Milner returning to Villa Park from Liverpool this summer following the Championship club’s promotion to the top tier of English football.
