Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has taken to Twitter to suggest that he will see Leeds United next season as the Whites went back to the top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
Leeds were superb against the Terriers at Elland Road. Luke Ayling scored a stunning volley early on, and Patrick Bamford poked the ball home shortly after half-time.
The Whites have now won their last five games. And they have not conceded a goal since Kiko Casilla’s error handed Brentford a goal in their draw last month.
With both Fulham and West Bromwich Albion drawing, Leeds have gone back to the top of the table. And, perhaps more crucially, they now sit seven points clear of third place with nine games remaining.
It appears that one Premier League star believes that the promotion race is all but done.
Laporte took to social media to laud the Whites as he posted a picture of himself alongside Marcelo Bielsa, whom he worked under at Athletic Bilbao earlier in his career.
Laporte – who cost Manchester City £57 million (fee reported by BBC Sport) – suggested that he expects to see Leeds at English football’s top table next season…

There is plenty of work for Leeds to do before they get across the line. But they could hardly be in a better position.
