Ayling and Gelhardt laud Leeds star after Carabao Cup win at Fulham
Luke Ayling and Joe Gelhardt were amongst the Leeds players to take to Instagram to laud Charlie Cresswell after the defender’s display in their Carabao Cup win over Fulham on Tuesday.
What’s the story?
Marcelo Bielsa handed out two debuts at Craven Cottage. Both Gelhardt and Stuart McKinstry came off the bench, and went on to score from the spot as Leeds went through on penalties.
But if one star emerged from the tie, it was surely Cresswell.
The 19-year-old was handed a start as the Whites continue to deal with an injury crisis at centre-back.
Ayling became the latest to move onto the sidelines. And he joined Diego Llorente and Robin Koch. Pascal Struijk meanwhile, was suspended.
But Cresswell went on to produce an outstanding display. Plenty of Whites fans were lauding the teenager on social media following the game.
He was colossal at the back. And he showed his talent on the ball, making more passes than any other player on the pitch.
‘Brilliant lad’: Ayling and Gelhardt laud Cresswell after Leeds win
Unsurprisingly, Cresswell was keen to take to Instagram after the win to comment on the victory.
It was only the youngster’s second appearance for the first-team. His debut came in the second round of this competition last year.
Cresswell appears to have developed considerably since then.
And it certainly appears that his teammates were extremely impressed with his display against Marco Silva’s side.
Several responded to his post with plenty of plaudits…
