‘Awful’… ESPN pundit claims one Manchester United player’s finishing was really poor vs Nottingham Forest

ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop has claimed that Marcus Rashford’s finishing for Manchester United last night was ‘awful’.

Manchester United booked their place in the quarter-final of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest last night.

Casemiro popped up with a late winner as he turned in Bruno Fernandes’ delivery from a free-kick.

United created plenty of opportunities on the night and while the same can be said for Forest, Erik ten Hag’s men lacked cutting edge in the final third without Rasmus Hojlund.

Marcus Rashford once again led the line in the Dane’s absence, despite recent suggestions that the forward and Ten Hag aren’t on the best terms right now.

It’s fair to say that Rashford struggled while playing through the middle, as has often been the case during his time at United, and Shaka Hislop was unimpressed with his display at the City Ground.

Hislop on Rashford’s ‘awful’ finishing

Speaking on ESPN FC, Hislop criticised Rashford after wasting an opportunity and feels United lacked cutting edge in the final third last night.

“They lacked cutting edge,” the pundit said. “Rashford had a chance, fantastic build-up from Man United, which put Rashford through the channel and and his finish was really just awful.

“It just spoke to that lack of quality, that lack of a finishing touch in the attacking third that cost Manchester United. In the end, it came from a set piece and Casemiro again popping up right place, right time.

“But so much United’s otherwise decent to good play just withered to nothing because there was nobody with that instinct in and around the Forest box.”

With all the noise around United at the moment, you wouldn’t think Ten Hag has picked up seven wins from his last nine games in all competitions.

While performances haven’t exactly been up to the required standard, United have turned a corner in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Rashford’s performances will be a cause for concern for Ten Hag.

Despite some flashes of brilliance, the Englishman has been way below par this term and has managed just five goals in all competitions.
