‘Available now’: Jurgen Klopp now says £70k-a-week Liverpool man is back in training and fit to face Leicester
The Reds have once again acted early in the transfer market to secure their desired target.
His transfer doesn’t officially go through until the transfer window opens on January 1st.
It means he’ll be watching from the side lines when Brenden Rodgers’ side make the journey to Anfield tomorrow.
Klopp’s side looked good against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, securing an important three points away from home.
Klopp has now confirmed that the team will be boosted by Ibrahima Konate being available against Leicester.
The young Frenchman is back in training after going all the way to the World Cup final with France.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t return with a winner’s medal around his neck, but will want to get back to winning ways quickly.
Konate available to play against Leicester
Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp said: “No new injury problems after the [Aston Villa] game, not that a lot would come back for the [Leicester] game apart from Ibou.”
“He is now training with us, he will be available now as well. So, positive for this moment but we know it will be a tough game.”
The 23-year-old is Van Dijk’s long-term centre-back partner going forward, but Matip has been so reliable when called upon.
However, his injury record has limited his availability throughout his Liverpool career, something Konate has also struggled with at times.
Matip is a big fan of his centre-back partner, and was very complimentary about his World Cup campaign.
Klopp will be glad that Konate is available to play against Leicester, and could throw him straight back into action tomorrow.
