Aubameyang Tweets disbelief at incident during Arsenal-Liverpool clash

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cannot believe Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was not shown a red card for a tackle on Arsenal teenager Bukayo Saka – after images showed the defender made contact, with his studs up.

Arsenal produced an excellent display to beat Premier League champions Liverpool 2-1, thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson – which cancelled out Sadio Mane’s opener.

Early in the second half, Alexander-Arnold was shown a yellow card for a tackle on Saka – which saw the England international go in high on the Gunners wonderkid, and scrape his studs down the attacker’s leg.

Alexander-Arnold was shown a yellow card and VAR failed to check the decision. It comes just days after Eddie Nketiah was shown a straight red card after a VAR check, for a similar tackle. Aubameyang is not impressed.

TBR’s view – Alexander-Arnold should have seen red

In what is another blot on VAR’s already dotted copy book, VAR failed to check Alexander-Arnold’s tackle. If replays had been checked, it is clear that the England defender should have been shown a red card.

Luckily for Arsenal, the decision to hand Alexander-Arnold a yellow did not affect the result. But Arsenal’s annoyance will be centred around that Nketiah is serving a suspension, while Alexander-Arnold will not.
