Joao Felix to Arsenal is emerging as one of the sagas of the January transfer window so far, with the Gunners trying to land the Atletico Madrid ace.

Arsenal are trying to add new forwards to the ranks in January. The plan is to give Mikel Arteta enough backing to push the Gunners to the title. As it stands, they sit five points clear of Manchester City.

The main name being mentioned for Arsenal is Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk. However, Joao Felix is also being mentioned on a daily basis now.

And speaking about the forward, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has said that in the end, Felix might end up staying in Madrid, labelling the situation ‘normal’.

Arsenal are hoping to hold a fresh round of talks with Felix and his representatives in the coming days. It’s hoped a deal can be struck, with Atletico thought to be keen on a big loan fee as well as Felix’s wages being covered.

However, these comments from Cerezo would suggest the Spanish club are calm on the situation. The spent over £100m on Felix when they signed him, and there’s clearly no rush to lose such an asset.

TBR’s View: Arsenal can get this deal done

Just like the Mudryk deal, there is a lot of optimism that Arsenal can get this one over the line. They seem to be pressing along nicely and we are only in the early stages of January after all.

The comments here are interesting but there’s no suggestion either that Cerezo won’t sell or loan Felix.

Arsenal can get this deal done. And they need to as well. If they miss out on key targets which effectively end up costing them the title, then it will sting.

The Gunners need to strike now, before the window rumbles on and others get involved.
