Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, but any deal for the Ghanaian could become increasingly difficult if his current club get their way.
Spanish publication AS are reporting that the La Liga side are desperate to keep hold of Partey. At the moment, with Arsenal and Inter Milan hovering, that is not easy. Partey has a release clause of just €50 million (£44m), making him a bargain in football’s current market. The report claims Arsenal have already made their intentions known, they will be making an approach in the summer.
Los Colchoneros are hoping to end that hope by tying Partey down to a new deal, which would double that clause to a far more imposing €100 million (£88m). Such a fee would undoubtedly leave Arsenal in the dust.

However, here is the potential upside for Arsenal. This contract offer has reportedly been on the table for Partey since October, and no agreement has been reached with the Spanish side.
It certainly hints at the idea that Partey might be stalling over his future at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Of course, none of this is likely to matter if Arsenal do not somehow secure Champions League football for next season. Both financially and professional, Partey will be hard to convince unless Arsenal find themselves back at the table of Europe’s elite.
But hearing that Partey is yet to extend his deal in Madrid will undoubtedly have Arsenal optimistic.
