France international striker Antoine Griezmann will make his move to Barcelona this summer, according to the CEO of Atletico Madrid.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Radio Estadio, via Sport, Gil Marin has said that his club’s talisman is bound for the Nou Camp.
He said: “I know exactly where he’s going to play. I’ve known since March. In Barcelona. There are players who feel they are greater than the squad, we have to form a group of men.”
And that likely means Atletico are going to have to dip into the transfer market to get a new forward – and they have been linked with Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez this week.
According to Libertad Digital, Atletico have joined La Liga rivals Valencia in the chase to sign Perez and expect between 10 and 15 million euros (£8.9 – £13.35 million) to be enough.
It’s not that Perez would be able to take on Griezmann’s talismanic status, but the Frenchman’s departure is only likely to heighten Atletico’s desire to get a new forward through the door ahead of the new campaign.
That’s why Griezmann’s Barcelona arrival looks like bad news for Newcastle’s chances of keeping Perez away from a return to Spain this summer.
