European giants Atletico Madrid are keen to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer, according to reports from Spanish outlet El Gol Digital.
The 20-year-old boasts more than 70 Premier League appearances to his name despite his tender years and recently made his England debut.
It is thought that Diego Simeone could be about to test West Ham’s resolve during the summer. It is unsure at this stage what fee it will take to prise him from the London Stadium, but he won’t come cheap.
Rice only penned a new contract with the Hammers in December worth a reported £30k-a-week, according to The Sun. That alone indicates West Ham’s intentions to keep him around and it will probably take an astronomical sum to tempt the club into selling one of their star men.
The 20-year-old has been a revelation at the London Stadium this season. His performances have earned him recognition with England and seen him become a first-team regular under Manuel Pellegrini.
Rice looks set for a massive future in football but right not his priority must be to play regular football. A move to Atletico could well hamper those chances given the plethora of midfield talent at Simeone’s disposal.
Pellegrini will want to progress the Hammers up the Premier League table next season and in order to do that, he will need to keep his best players around. Rice is definitely one of those and as a result, the club must do all they can to keep him away from the clutches of the bigger clubs in Europe.
