Atalanta are confident of signing Fulham star Rodrigo Muniz in the ‘biggest’ Serie A transfer

TBR Football understands that Atalanta are hopeful of concluding a deal which will make Rodrigo Muniz the biggest signing of this summer’s Italian transfer window.

The biggest incoming transfer thus far in Serie A is AC Milan’s €36 million deal for Swiss midfielder Ardon Jashari, but Atalanta are ready to pay more than €40 million for Muniz.

TBR Football has previously revealed Muniz’s desire to move to Bergamo, and that remains. Muniz had been in talks over a new deal, but with no agreement in sight, the chance of Champions League football has convinced him that a move to Atalanta is the right decision for him.

Leeds United also expressed interest in signing Muniz, but have since opted to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the Brazilian gave his preference to the Serie A outfit.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have been informed that Atalanta are confident of sealing a deal in the coming days, as they firmly believe the 24-year-old is eager for the move.

Exclusive: Atalanta are confident of signing Rodrigo Muniz

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has exclusively revealed that Muniz could have played his final match for Fulham after he came off the bench and scored a 97th-minute equaliser against Brighton in the 1-1 draw on Saturday.

According to Bailey, Marco Silva has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy his desire to retain the Brazilian forward, but the magnitude of the deal has left Atalanta confident that an agreement will be reached.

As revealed by TBR Football in July, Tottenham and Aston Villa have kept tabs on Muniz this summer alongside Newcastle United, but none of the interested Premier League sides have formalised their interest.

Muniz featured 31 times for Fulham last season, scoring eight goals, and his efforts have attracted interest across Europe, although he is believed to have chosen his destination as Atalanta.

Silva paid tribute to Muniz’s efforts after his match-defining goal at the American Express Stadium in the Premier League opener.

“Sometimes it’s not easy, the rumours around themselves, the people around themselves, you are talking about their jobs as well,” said the Fulham boss.

“But I think he’s going to handle in the future even better these type of moments. He’s still young in my opinion. This is the third season he’ll have as a senior striker. He’s proved himself as a Premier League striker.

“He is going to be even better this season. He had a very, very good week, good work ethic. He’s a professional.

“Rodrigo created something with Fulham fans that is not so easy to do. Of course, first of all, they recognise his quality. And secondly, he’s a player who always gives everything for the shirt.”

Fulham want to replace Rodrigo Muniz with two attackers

Bailey exclusively reported for TBR Football that Fulham have identified two replacements for Muniz and will look to close the potential deals in the coming weeks.

One is Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi, with discussions progressing nicely for the 33-year-old, but the Cottagers may face competition from Leeds.

Shakhtar Donetsk winger Kevin could be the second arrival at Craven Cottage from the funds generated by Muniz’s potential departure.

Sources informed TBR Football that Fulham are making steady progress despite seeing a £25 million bid rejected by the Ukrainian giants, and they will return with an improved offer.
