Everton are reportedly weighing up a bargain £5million move to sign Arsenal star Calum Chambers – but Newcastle should also be in the race.
Chambers, 26, is likely to be made available for transfer in January – with his current Arsenal contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Indeed, the England international has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal this season. That is, despite his incredible versatility.
He can play as a right-back, right of a back three, a centre-back or even as a holding midfielder. But January is the last chance Arsenal can get a fee.
The Sun state that Everton could pursue a deal for Chambers, if they are unable to land themselves another England player – Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
But at just £5million, Chambers is likely to have numerous suitors and Newcastle have simply got to be among them.

Why Newcastle have got to go after bargain £5m Arsenal star Chambers
Newcastle’s side needs numerous additions. But a right-back, a centre-back and a holding midfielder are certainly up there as priorities.
Jacob Murphy, a winger, has been used at right-back, while Steve Bruce wanted a centre-back and a midfielder in the summer. He did not get them.
What Newcastle would be getting in Chambers is an English player, with more than 100 appearances for Arsenal – for only £5million.
A deal would be easy to do and it suits all parties. If Everton are going in for Chambers, Newcastle should elbow them aside and sign the Arsenal man.
