At just £12m, Tottenham have got to consider Celtic defender

Celtic are reportedly ready to accept offers of £12million for defender Kristoffer Ajer this summer as the Scottish club prepare for a summer overhaul – and Tottenham Hotspur have simply got to consider a move for the Norwegian.

The Hoops have already waved goodbye to Jeremie Frimpong, Scott Brown, Patryk Klimala and Olivier Ntcham – though the latter is only on loan at Marseille, and more are expected to leave. Certainly, the on-loan stars will exit.

That includes Jonjoe Kenny, Mo Elyounoussi, Shane Duffy and Diego Laxalt who are expected to return to Everton, Southampton, Brighton and Milan. Ajer is one of a number of players who could depart on a permanent basis.

The 21-time Norway international is due to enter the last 12 months of his contract at Parkhead – and The Herald claim Celtic want just £12million for the defender, who has clocked up 173 appearances for the Hoops since joining.

Norwich City and Newcastle United have been linked, but Ajer’s versatility has got to tempt Spurs – especially at that price. The North London club are set to look at signing a centre-back or two this summer, with Spurs struggling.

Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld have been poor so far – while Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga are still learning. Ajer would add plenty of quality for a bargain £12million, as well as plenty of resale value.

Not only is Ajer a proper talent, with plenty of experience already at such a young age – but he offers cover in the middle of the defence, at right-back and even in holding midfield. Spurs would get all of this for a tiny price.

Represented by the same agents as Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag according to TransferMarkt, Spurs would be foolish not to consider a move for Ajer. Even if he is not the first name on the team sheet, he could be in a couple of years.
