At just £12m, Jose Mourinho has got to sign right-sided flyer for a second time – TBR View

The right-back area has become a problem position for Jose Mourinho at Tottenham despite the signing of Matt Doherty and it is something that needs to be addressed in the coming weeks. Now, one of Jose Mourinho’s old signings could be available.

Clearly, Mourinho does not trust Serge Aurier and he has been dropped from the side of late – while Doherty has been very inconsistent since his move from Wolves. Japhet Tanganga started at right-back against Aston Villa last time out.

So, Spurs could do with another right-back signing and the perfect man might have just presented himself to Mourinho. On loan at AC Milan, Manchester United’s Diego Dalot has starred for the Italian side – helping them climb to second in Serie A.

Dalot, 22, joined Manchester United from Porto in 2018 – signed while Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford. But in two seasons at United, he clocked up just 35 appearances. At Milan, he has had a hand in four goals during his 24 appearances.

Now, The Metro claim Milan want to make that loan deal a permanent one. It is claimed that Milan have tabled an offer of £12million to sign Dalot – a figure that would see United make a loss on Dalot, but a loss worth only £7million.

However, Spurs have got to be in the hunt for a player that is starring not only Italy – but also in the Europa League. Going forward he can score and create, while defensively, he is solid. Jose Mourinho compared him to Gary Neville in 2018.

Mourinho said: He has fantastic potential. I don’t want to compare, but he is probably the same age as Gary Neville when he came into the first team. He can follow Neville in this dynamic of more than 10 years as United’s right-back.

So, at such a low price and given his Milan form and the enormous potential Dalot possesses, surely Mourinho has to consider battling Milan and look to tempt Dalot into joining Spurs ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. He would be a smart signing.
