In December, Mundo Deportivo claimed that West Ham were one of several clubs reported to have an interest in then Barcelona forward Munir El Haddadi as he entered the final six months of his contract. Eventually, he would join Sevilla for just €1 million (£900,000), but at such a bargain price, it is mysterious that West Ham did not push harder to sign the Spanish striker.
Instead, the Irons have been left with uncertainty hanging over the London Stadium as speculation continues to surround the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez, though none have yet departed.
That may explain why the club were reluctant to jump into action in the transfer market, even if Munir would have come at a knock-down price with his contract set to expire.

There may also have been doubts about how Munir would have adapted to the Premier League. Known for his technique and movement, rather than his physicality, it may have been a challenge for the 23-year-old to adapt to life in east London.
At £900,000, Sevilla certainly appear to have secured a bargain, and it certainly puts some of West Ham’s transfer dealings into perspective given the fees that have been paid for other players.
If the Hammers are to rise up the table, bargains like Munir may be the easiest way to achieve that this January unless there are some significant departures imminent.
