At £8.6m, Arsenal must consider Rui Patricio bid
Arsenal look to be heading towards a major overhaul of the squad this summer, with The Telegraph listing a large number of players who could leave the Emirates over the coming months.
Interestingly, one of the names facing an uncertain future is Bernd Leno. According to The Telegraph, the German is expected to leave Arsenal.
Leno has had a mixed time this season. He was under additional pressure heading into this campaign with Emi Martinez being sold after an amazing run in the side.
At times, he has been excellent. But there have also been some costly mistakes – including the recent own goal that gave Everton a win over Mikel Arteta’s men.
It remains to be seen what the plans are for Mat Ryan. The Australian joined on loan in the winter and has staked a claim to be signed permanently when he has been given a chance.
But whether he is good enough to be Arsenal’s number one is debatable. Thus, it would certainly be smart to look for a new first-choice when the window opens.
Wolves star should be an option Arsenal consider
And perhaps a report emanating from Italy should inspire Edu and Arteta as they consider potential options.
Calciomercato reported this week that incoming Roma boss Jose Mourinho wants Rui Patricio. And remarkably, the report has suggested that he could cost between £6.9 million and £8.6 million (€8-€10 million).
In truth, it would be bizarre to sell for those figures. He has been outstanding throughout his time at Molineux.
Admittedly, his contract expires next summer. So they may well consider selling the Portuguese. And if they are prepared to sell for anything like those sorts of prices, Arsenal must act.
He has been an excellent performer since joining Wolves.
Patricio is now 33, so he may not be the long-term answer. But if Leno is leaving and Arsenal are working with a limited budget, the Wolves man may be the perfect option.
