Newcastle United’s last three performances have highlighted numerous problems – but mostly, the need of new centre-backs. Tottenham’s £25million price tag could just be what the doctor ordered, on Tyneside.
Jamaal Lascelles has been found out of his depth, Ciaran Clark was signed in the Championship – and was hardly inspiring in the second tier. Fede Fernandez is good, but injured. Fabian Schar is a decent option.
But with Eddie Howe playing three at the back, Newcastle need a couple of centre-back signings. They have been linked with numerous options, the likes of James Tarkowski, Nat Phillips and Ben Mee at times.
Tottenham might have just handed Newcastle the chance to improve their defensive woes. They are willing to cash in on Colombia international Davinson Sanchez, if a fee of £25million is tabled in the January window.

Newcastle have got to consider £25million Tottenham man Sanchez…
Italian outlet Calcio In Pillole claim that Napoli want to sign Sanchez. But the ex-Ajax man will be tempted to leave due to a lack of game time and at Napoli – the chances are, that those struggles will continue in Serie A.
At Newcastle, it would be a different story. While there are cases in which he can be error-prone, coming in and out of the side is not going to help. He needs momentum, and he would easily be first choice on Tyneside.
Not only that, but his strength, pace and athleticism makes him the kind of fighter-like centre-back Newcastle need in a relegation dog fight. Signing Sanchez from Tottenham would enormously boost Newcastle’s survival hopes.
