‘Astonishing’: Garth Crooks lauds Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool displays this week

For many, Liverpool against Tottenham yesterday was one of the very best games of the Premier League season so far.

Both Spurs and Reds fans, as well as the neutral, were treated to an all-action, fast-paced display of Premier League football, with two of the world’s very best coaches at the helm. Goals from Jota, Kane, Son, and Robertson, plus VAR controversy, all contributed to a fine football match.

But while many pay attention to Liverpool’s superb attacking players, it is Trent Alexander-Arnold who seems to be coming into his own in recent weeks. The Reds right-back once again played a key role, setting up Robertson’s goal at Spurs to add to his thunderbolt strike against Newcastle.

And picking his team of the week for the BBC, Garth Crooks has said he is blown away by how consistent Alexander-Arnold has become for Liverpool.

“I have never known a referee so consistently inconsistent. One person who has been incredibly consistent so far this season is Alexander-Arnold. His use of the ball and quality of pass is second to none, while his goal against Newcastle went past Martin Dubravka like a missile,” Crooks wrote.

“As for his volleyed cross in the first half against Spurs, that was just astonishing.”

Alexander-Arnold was one of two players picked by Crooks this week. His fellow full-back Andy Robertson was also selected.

TBR’s View: Alexander-Arnold Proving World-Class For Liverpool

It’s almost bizarre to think that Trent wasn’t going to be part of the England squad in the summer before he got a knock. As things stand, he looks like the best right-back in the league.

The future could see him move into midfield, too. His range of passing and ability to create chances is almost as good as anyone in the Premier League.

As long as Liverpool have Alexander-Arnold on the field, they’ll always be a team who creates chances.
