Aston Villa have secured promotion back to the Premier League. Dean Smith’s side secured a 2-1 win over Derby County at Wembley to secure their place back in the top-flight of English football.
It was certainly a special occasion for the Aston Villa players, but perhaps none more so than Jack Grealish. The local lad is a huge Aston Villa fan and has emerged from injury trouble and off-field controversy early in his career to lead his club to promotion.
But his joy will not be welcomed by Tottenham Hotspur. Any chance that Spurs may have had of signing the 23-year-old can now be forgotten.
As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham failed with a £25 million bid for the midfielder in the summer. Tottenham stalled for too long in the transfer window and by the time they firmed up their interest Aston Villa had been sold and any financial issues had been solved. The club no longer needed to sell Grealish and Tottenham’s ship had sailed.
Spurs might have wanted to return for the player in the summer. However, that task would have been made much easier by Aston Villa failing to win promotion back to the Premier League.
It is now highly unlikely that Grealish will leave his beloved Aston Villa without having another crack at Premier League football with the club.
Grealish signed a new deal at Villa Park this season and earlier this month The Mirror reported it contains a £60 million release clause. But even if Tottenham broke tradition and spent such a hefty fee on Grealish, there is no way the Solihull-kid is going to leave Aston Villa this summer.
