Aston Villa’s links with Brentford attacker Said Benrahma have been back in the news this week.
It was claimed earlier in the summer that Dean Smith wanted to bring his former wide star to Villa Park following promotion to the Premier League.
Now, L’Equipe has reported that the Algerian is desperate for a move to join his former boss in the top-flight. The report claimed that Benrahma was hopeful of a ‘quick agreement’ to make the transfer happen this summer.

However, reports from Sky Sports suggest that Benrahma may not get his wish.
They suggest that whilst Aston Villa boss Smith is a big fan of the player, the fee involved was becoming an issue. Aston Villa reportedly offered £14 million to Brentford earlier this summer. That offer was turned down and Aston Villa have no intention of going any higher.
Last month, The Sun reported that Brentford wanted £20 million for the player, who scored 10 goals and provided 14 assists for the Bees last season.
It also appears that Aston Villa have moved on. The club have agreed a deal to sign Egyptian international Trezeguet this summer. As reported by the Express and Star, Aston Villa are ‘poised’ to sign the attacker in an £8.75 million deal.
Considering the similar playing styles of the pair, it would now be an odd move for Aston Villa to swoop for Benrahma. It appears his arrival is one Aston Villa fans can forget about this summer.
